What is EN 343?
EN 343 is a European standard for protective clothing. There are two versions of this standard among the products in MASCOT’s range. Both versions test the workwear for its ability to withstand heavy water pressure and for its breathability.

EN343 Resistance to Water Penetration is subdivided into three sub-levels: Class 3 affords the highest level of foul weather protection, ■ Class 2 provides an intermediate foul weather protection, ■ Class 1 provides the lowest level of foul weather protection.

The breathability of a fabric relates to its ability to let sweat (in the form of water vapour) escape. For example, a jacket with a label showing 20,000 / 15,000 has a waterproof rating of 20k (an excellent rating) and a breathability rating of 15k (which is also extremely good).

10k waterproofing: A decent rating and the minimum you would want to wear for several hours on the slopes each day. Ski clothing with this rating will keep you dry for a good 2-3 hours in the event of snow.

Is 4000 mm waterproof good for a tent?
Waterproof ratings for tents are measured in millimetres and will usually be between 1000mm (the lowest level considered waterproof) and 10,000mm. The higher the rating, the more waterproof a tent will be. It is recommended that tents are periodically ‘reproofed’ with a tent reproofing spray.
